South Wales Police have (temporarily) scored themselves a Ford Ranger Raptor!
The force is the first in the UK to trial the Ranger Raptor – that has been modified by Ford’s Special Vehicle Preparation team in Essex. The Ranger Raptor sports a full Police vehicle wrap with all-round emergency lights and sirens. Sadly, no bump in power figures though.
Should a perp decide to make his escape on actual sealed roads, the Ranger Raptor is probably not the fastest vehicle to play catch up with its 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine which makes a modest 157 kW, but also weighs 2.5 tonnes.
0-100 km/h takes well over over 10 seconds, and the top speed is just 168km/h. For this reason, the UK Police Force have also started testing the 250 km/h, 206 kW Ford Focus ST Estate.
If a perp decides to go off the beaten track however, the Ranger Raptor will likely have the advantage, given it’s Fox Racing Suspension, 33-inch BFGoodrich All Terrain tyres and reinforced chassis. It might only do 168 km/h…. but it’ll do it off-road too, and not many others can do that comfortably!
