Highly Anticipated 7-seater GLB Joins Mercedes-Benz Australia Family

Even though the starting price is $59,900, the GLB has everything going for it to be another Mercedes-Benz success story. It is as versatile, as it is unique. Read more about what Mercedes-Benz has to say below.

With its powerful proportions, off-road-oriented design and remarkable capacity to carry up to seven occupants as a standard inclusion, the new Mercedes-Benz GLB compact SUV is set to change the shape of the premium SUV market in Australia.

Already widely praised in Europe, the Mercedes-Benz GLB is keenly anticipated by Australian customers eager to experience the clever packaging that allows for three rows of seating within the dimensions of a compact SUV, all packaged together with a compelling suite of technology, safety and comfort inclusions plus a choice of engine and equipment specifications.

At 2829 millimetres, the GLB has a wheelbase 100 mm longer than the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, yet front row headroom is best-in-class at 1035 mm and effective legroom for second row passengers is especially comfortable at 967 mm. Meanwhile, a loading space that expands from 560 litres (second row in place) to 1755 litres (second and third rows stowed) offers estate-like carrying capacity.

Third row as standard

The GLB is the first compact vehicle from Mercedes-Benz to offer a third row, with two additional individual seats offering a comfortable position for passengers up to 1.68 metres tall. These seats are also fitted with extensive safety equipment including retractable head restraints, seat belts with belt tensioners, a side window airbag, plus ISOFIX and TOP-Tether anchorages for suitable child seats. A total of four ISOFIX points are offered in the rear two rows, for truly flexible seating options.

Passengers in the third row are also served by two drinks holders between the seats, as well as two outboard stowage compartments, each fitted with a USB port. When lowered, the two seats stow flush with the load compartment floor to maximise cargo capacity.

Further flexibility is added to the loading area by second-row seats that can be moved fore-aft by 140 millimetres, and a seat-back that splits 40:20:40. A multi-stage backrest ensures second-row passengers experience optimal comfort.

Muscular, purposeful design

Powerful proportions underscore the design of the GLB; reduced lines and precise seams are a feature, while the upright front section with striking headlights is clear evidence of off-road genes, as are appealingly short overhangs at the front and rear.

“Its iconic design lends the Mercedes-Benz GLB an unmistakable SUV character,” says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Daimler AG. “The clear forms with reduced lines and powerful surfaces conveys our design philosophy of Sensual Purity.”

The character and quality finishes evident to the eye externally carry through a detailed examination of the interior. The widescreen cockpit featuring the benchmark MBUX multimedia system frames the driver and front passenger area. Luxurious comfort seats provide solid support, and the SUV character is further underlined by horizontal grab handles sculptured as a milled aluminium tube.

Mercedes-Benz GLB 200

The Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 is powered by a 1.3-litre, direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine sending 120 kW and 250 Nm via a 7G-DCT seven-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels.

The GLB 200 is extensively equipped including the acclaimed MBUX multimedia system with a widescreen cockpit featuring side-by-side 10.25-inch digital screens. Other key features include the KEYLESS-GO entry and start system with electric tailgate, Comfort Seats in ARTICO upholstery, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto® plus wireless phone charging for compatible devices, advanced satellite navigation, a third row of seats, illuminated door sills, leather multi-function steering wheel with shift buttons, reversing camera, Comfort Suspension, rain-sensing wipers, 19-inch Multi-Spoke alloy wheels and aluminium roof rails.

Standard safety features include Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, Adaptive High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Active Lane Keep Assist, Active Brake Assist with semi-autonomous braking, and nine airbags.

All models in the GLB range can be registered with Mercedes me Connect, the app that can control numerous vehicle functions and features from a compatible smartphone.

Mercedes-Benz GLB 250 4MATIC

The GLB 250 4MATIC utilises a powerful 2.0-litre, directed-injected and turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 165 kW and 350 Nm via an 8G-DCT eight-speed auto, sending power where it’s needed via the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

In addition to the comprehensive specification of the GLB 200 model, the GLB 250 4MATIC adds a panoramic sunroof, electric and heated front seats with memory function, adjustable damping suspension, a Sports Direct-Steer System, 19-inch wheels with a 5 Twin-Spoke design, and an OFF-ROAD engineering package. The latter includes Downhill Speed Regulation and an additional driving mode to adapt the power delivery of the engine, the characteristics of 4MATIC, and ABS intervention for off-road driving on easy terrain. An animation of the driving situation can be called up on the media display. 4MATIC models are also equipped with an off-road light function making it easier to see obstacles in rough terrain in the dark. With the off-road light the cornering light on the MULTIBEAM LED headlamps is continuously switched on up to a speed of 50 km/h. This results in wide and bright light distribution immediately in front of the vehicle.

Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC

The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC is powered by an AMG-tuned 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine outputting 225 kW and 400 Nm in conjunction with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT eight-speed auto (with AMG Dynamic Select) via 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.
